How can I help?

Presenting research in such a way that policymakers can digest, interpret and use it to guide their work is critical if that research is to make an impact in the world. Similarly, being able to demonstrate that impact is essential for securing financial support.

I’m Anna. I help craft copy that’s accessible and drives home a message. From refining narratives and establishing tone of voice across multi-author reports to condensing and simplifying complex information, fact-checking and ensuring adherence to the correct style guide, I pride myself on light-touch edits that improve readability without riding roughshod over your work.

I work with universities and NGOs, editing and proofreading reports and policy briefs. My clients include leading research projects whose reports are presented at high-level conferences such as COP and published by international organisations like the WHO. I’m proud to play a part in putting world-leading research into the hands of policymakers around the globe - and I’m passionate about strong copy and its potential to influence and create change.

As a formally trained journalist with years of experience as a sub-editor followed by a career in communications, I bring a unique blend of knowledge and skills, including design and layout, digital content and media relations, which frequently prove useful to clients. As part of the editing process I often highlight possible pull quotes for designers, for example, while final proofing will always include feedback on any design issues. I can also provide input on framing, give style and tone guidance to your author team, and assess and edit web copy.

I’m a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading and I’m proud to have developed a reputation for being meticulous, punctual, collaborative and flexible. I can usually offer short-turnaround editing and proofing at a higher rate, so if you’re in a tight spot and need help in the next day or two, drop me a line and I’ll get back to you straight away.

I also work with universities to hone their impact case studies for the Research Excellence Framework.

Did you know, a recent study found that high-scoring submissions in REF 2014 tended to feature a more straightforward writing style…

‘As well as the significance, reach and attribution of impact, as given by the REF’s published criteria, the presentation of the narratives seems also to have influenced impact assessment.’

If you’re a researcher or impact manager gearing up for REF 2029, reach out to see how we can work together.
